I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your letter of the 8th May, 1933, transmitting

a copy of an account from the Shanghai Municipal

Council for the burial of the late John Maria dos

Santos.

I regret that this Government cannot accept

liability for such expenditure, which should, I

consider, properly be met by the Administration of

the territory in which it was incurred.
